School Profile
River Gum Primary School is situated on 3.3 hectares of land on Fordholm Road, Hampton Park. Our current enrolment is approximately 540 students. We cater for a wide range of social, economic and cultural backgrounds and positive reinforcement is a specific school focus.
Besides the core Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS) for Literacy, Numeracy, Science, Health and Physical Education, Studies of Society and Environment, The Arts and Technology, River Gum offers many additional programs, such as our special Kinder to Prep Transition Class (K.P), ESL (English as a Second Language) Groups, Reading Recovery, Additional Assistance, Integration Program, Instrumental Teaching, Lunchtime activities, Active After School Programs, and Computers in all classrooms as well as a Computer Lab.
The school has an indoor heated swimming pool on the property and provides weekly lessons for all children throughout the year at a reduced cost. Hampton Park Secondary College is opposite and there are several areas of co-operation between the College and the School through our involvement in an Innovation and Excellence Cluster.
The Staff have a great professional commitment to academic achievement and student welfare, aiming to equip every child to the highest possible degree for adult life with a sense of personal empowerment, personal worth, willingness to challenge and to take risks and strong sense of personal responsibility for him/herself and to the community generally. In curriculum planning, Staff keep in mind the fact that people learn in different ways and conduct activities which are adapted to suit the differing learning styles of the students. The 'You Can Do It' Program, promoting positive behaviours of Resilience, Organisation, Getting Along, Confidence and Persistence is introduced and reinforced at all levels.
