Principal's Preamble
Our community builds the foundations of River Gum Primary School. In a school community, partnerships for learning 'Together We Can' build the culture of life-long learning through the many engaging programs we offer. Our School Council recognises the partnerships with our 'Gumnuts' (Parents and Friends Association). In 2009 the fundraising enabled the purchase of the 'Sun Smart Eating Area' and the redevelopment of the gardens. The Victorian State Government's 'Blueprint for Education' recognises the value of the Hampton Park school community and partnerships with parents and communities-partnerships for learning.
Community partnerships have enabled River Gum Primary School to commence the building of Stage One of the Performing Arts Centre with $3 million of Federal Government's 'Building the Education Revolution' funding.
The staff are a highly cohesive team of highly dedicated professionals committed to supporting young learners. Teachers are committed to implementing the Principles of Learning and Teaching (PoLT). In particular Principle 1 that the 'teaching and learning environment is supportive and productive through building positive relationships through knowing and valuing each student'.
The schools culture of 'Together We Can' is evident in that:
· we value and respect the individuality of each child and their different learning styles;
· teachers design engaging developmentally appropriate learning activities;
· we structure student groups in ways that support both the academic and social development of children;
· teachers are persistently seeking to improve their professional knowledge; and,
· we implement a positive and effective approach to student engagement.
On behalf of all the staff, I would like to thank the members of the School Council and the very many committed parents who support our teachers in many ways. The school community at River Gum is both friendly and welcoming.
