Music
Music at River Gum primary School aims to provide children with a means
to learn about how music fits into the modern world. Classes are mainly
practical and performance based and children are allowed the
opportunity to learn how to play modern instruments such as guitar,
drums keyboard and bass guitar. The school has a concert every year and
also releases a CD of the children's recording. River Gum has a choir
and a djembe club for interested students and these two ensembles
perform regularly at ensembles and other gatherings. Each week at
assembly a class or group of students perform the national anthem and
other musical items throughout the year. River Gum has a small
instrumental program available to students who wish to learn guitar,
bass, drums or keyboard (limited availability). The music room doubles
as a fantastic performance area for concerts and is connected directly
to the gym. All the elements of music such as performance, composition,
improvisation, theory, pitch, melody, rhythm, beat, tempo, tone colour,
texture, singing, movement, dance, etc are woven into the program. It
is River Gum's aim to make music as fun as possible for children and to
give them an avenue in which to continue and enjoy for the rest of
their life.
